About the Tune In & Tune Up Program

The San Joaquin Valley is home to a large number of older cars, many of which do not meet state emissions standards. Tune In & Tune Up helps vehicle owners take voluntary action to help improve air quality by subsidizing expensive smog repairs.

Thanks to the sponsorship of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, Valley CAN hosts Tune In & Tune Up events throughout the San Joaquin Valley, providing residents with free emissions tests to determine whether their vehicle qualifies for free repairs at a local STAR certified smog shop.

How it Works

If you are a San Joaquin Valley resident and you think your vehicle is in need of smog related repairs, bring it to the next scheduled Tune In & Tune Up in your area for a free emissions test.

If your vehicle fails our emissions test, Valley CAN will give you a $500 voucher for emission-related repairs at a local smog STAR-certified smog shop. The $500 can only be used for diagnostics, smog testing, smog repair work, and certification. We only care about your emissions test and only collect vehicle/participant data for internal reporting.
